Industrifonden invests in ScandiDos
Stockholm, Sweden: Industrifonden invests SEK 10 million in Uppsala-based ScandiDos, a company that is developing a system for monitoring the quality of cancer treatment. ScandiDos’s equipment ensures that radiation dosages are exactly right and that it reaches the right place in the body. The company already has sales throughout the world and the new capital will be used to finance further expansion.
The demands for quality assurance are growing as a result of cancer therapies becoming increasingly sophisticated and individually adapted to each patient. Therefore it is essential that radiation dosages are exactly right. The ScandiDos system enables the treatment staff to test the dosage before each session using a special detector.
“ScandiDos’s equipment ensures that the treatment is given in the right way, which makes it more effective, with fewer side effects. This saves both time and money,” says Yvonne Petersson, investment manager at Industrifonden. “ScandiDos has already demonstrated that its products are well to the fore in advanced radiotherapy.”
ScandiDos’s system, marketed under the DeltaÔ brand name, is designed to function with advanced, state-of-the-art radiotherapy equipment. It measures the radiation throughout the entire treatment. In that way it can be adapted more easily to individual needs.
“There is an acute need to monitor the quality of radiation therapy faster, so that more patients can be treated more quickly and thus reducing queues,” says Görgen Nilsson, founder and president of ScandiDos. “With Industrifonden as a shareholder we are better placed to invest more resources in marketing DeltaÔ and also to accelerate the development of more products within this area.”
ScandiDos, which has eight employees, was established in 2002 and has been marketing its system globally for two years to customers in Asia, the USA and Europe. So far the company has been financed by the founders, business angels and Innovationsbron in Uppsala. As well as Industrifonden, several private investors are also taking part in the new issue, which will raise a total of SEK 15 million.
