SEK 35 million for Tonium's handheld DJ player
Industrifonden, Arvid Svensson & Ekstranda Media AB and Via Venture Partners are together investing a total of SEK 35 million in Tonium AB (www.tonium.com), a Swedish company which has developed the Pacemaker handheld DJ player. The funds will be used to expand the market for Pacemaker, which is now ready to be launched on the market.
Pacemaker is the world's first handheld DJ player. It is small enough to fit into the palm of the hand, has a 120 GB hard disk that you can download music onto and mix exactly the way you want. It contains all the functions of a complete DJ system. Tonium also provides soft-ware to enable the music to be mixed as well as a community - Pacemaker.net - where users can share their music mixes.
"This injection of new capital will enable us to speed up the development process and sales. We believe our concept is ideal for the new generation that wants to get involved, be creative, and then publish their creations," says Jonas Norberg, Tonium's founder and president.
Tonium will start selling Pacemaker, which has already aroused great interest in the media, both in Sweden and abroad, in February 2008.
"We can see a huge market for Pacemaker," says Magnus Fransson, investment manager at Industrifonden. It is an innovative product that has already aroused considerable interest in the music industry. This can be really exciting!"
"The Pacemaker concept is genuinely exciting. It represents a unique combination of con-sumer electronics, a miniature DJ machine, an advanced mixing client for the computer and an internet community," says Anders Grånäs, investment manager at Via Venture Partners.
With this investment Via Venture Partners will become a new shareholder in the company, in which the other investors are already shareholders. Tonium has raised a total of SEK 50 million in venture capital since it was founded in 2005.
